What does "EarthBound Collection" mean?
This project is actually two romhacks: the remake, and for consistency, a version of the base game with the quality-of-life improvements we added to the remake. Also, lots of typo fixes!

How long has the remake been worked on?
It has a pretty complicated backstory! Tomato worked on an early version from January 30th, 2007 to March 19th, 2007. He stopped partially because of the MOTHER 3 Fan Translation, but mostly because his project got corrupted and he lost a lot of progress on map editing.

Then, H.S started his own iteration from December 1st, 2010 to April 30th, 2020, at which point he vanished from the community with no trace. He didn't ever share his project files with the community, so it felt like the project had been irrevocably lost.

In August 2021, a community effort to gather and archive all maps, sprites, music, and other assets created over the past decade for the project led Gabbi to start her own iteration. She used a few maps H.S posted to the forum as a launching-off point, but otherwise started from scratch. With the help of the PK Hack community, she's been working from December 5th, 2021 to the present day. [Video]
It's been in the works, in one form or another, for about nineteen years.
